Mental Health Support Worker

Location: South Yorkshire based at Bradmarsh Business Park Rotherham

Salary: £25,715 per annum

Contract type: Full-time Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

The Role

This role is ideal for you if you have the ability to work independently, prioritise your workload, and possess good listening, communication, and writing skills to fill in care plans.

Mental Health Support Workers at Target support people in their own homes and in their community, working with individuals who may have ASD, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, substance use, and a mental health condition.

Responsibilities
  • Encouraging people to develop person-centred support plans tailored to their individual wishes and aspirations.
  • Supporting people with social and physical activities and basic tasks such as meal preparation and prompting to maintain self-esteem and dignity.
  • Helping people to get ready in the morning, go to work or university, and perform household tasks such as cleaning, cooking, budgeting, and social activities.
  • Monitoring individuals’ health and helping them to manage medications, working proactively with supporting services such as community mental health teams and probation to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Assisting people to attend appointments and supporting them to receive effective care and support.
Skills and experience

Your induction will include necessary training such as health and safety, first aid, medications, moving and handling, autism awareness, communication skills, and working with people who have experienced trauma.

Good English and number skills such as GCSE in English and maths along with a social care qualification are beneficial but are not a barrier and we can support you to achieve these during your employment.

It is useful to have experience working in a similar role or with vulnerable adults either through a work placement, volunteering, a traineeship, or apprenticeship.

  • A valid UK driving licence and access to own vehicle. Business insurance will be required.
  • Enhanced DBS Check.
