Job Summary

Join Our Team as a Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) equivalent and work within our practices in the Wellingborough neighbourhood to deliver same day support to our patients. We are looking for an experienced Mental Health ANP to join our Neighbourhood Access Service, part of the innovative New Models Programme.

You will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team within primary care to provide same‑day mental health assessments, manage crisis presentations, follow up discrete episodes of mental illness and deliver evidence‑based care. This is your chance to shape integrated neighbourhood services and make a real difference to patient outcomes.

About Us

The Neighbourhood of Wellingborough, consisting of 8 GP Practices, is seeking to develop an innovative new model of care. You will be working with a team of GPs and other specialist ANPs to deliver same‑day care to the Wellingborough population.

Job Description

Post: Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)

Band: 8a (£55,690–£62,682 per annum)

Reports to: Clinical Director for same‑day access model

Accountable to: Neighbourhood Steering Group

Key Relationships: Patients and Carers, Practice/Network GPs, Nursing Staff, Neighbourhood Access Service team, Community Mental Health Teams, Social Care and VCSE partners, Pharmacists, Learning Disability Services, Crisis and Urgent Care Teams, Safeguarding Leads

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide same‑day mental health assessments for patients referred to the Neighbourhood Access Service via their GP practice.
  • Provide appropriate follow‑up appointments within the same day access model to support and manage mental health episodes.
  • Manage undifferentiated mental health presentations, including crisis triage and escalation, where required.
  • Prescribe and review medication in line with the local formulary and NICE guidance.
  • Signpost to evidence‑based interventions for anxiety, depression and other common mental health conditions.
  • Liaise with community iapt, mental health teams, safeguarding leads and social care for continuity of care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and coding in clinical systems (SystmOne/EMIS).
Regulatory
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies for adults and children.
  • Comply with Data Protection Act, GDPR and Caldicott principles.
  • Participate in clinical governance, incident reporting and service audits.
Personal / Professional Development
  • Maintain a personal / professional development plan and portfolio to meet revalidation requirements through appraisal of own performance and discussion of development needs with mentor, supervisors and managers on a regular basis.
  • Maintain NMC registration and professional development in line with expectations of the role.
  • Work at all times within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Provide mentorship and training of new recruits or students as and when required.
  • Participate in the Practice Performance Review process.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to work flexibly across neighbourhood sites.
  • Commitment to patient‑centred care.
  • Understanding of NICE guidance and local mental health pathways.
  • Awareness of safeguarding and Core20PLUS5 priorities.
  • Significant experience in mental health assessment and management in primary/ community care.
  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health).
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent.
  • Independent Prescriber (V300).

Desirable

  • Driving licence and access to transport.
  • Knowledge of population health management.
  • Experience in service development or audit.
  • Experience in writing clinical protocols.
  • Teaching / Mentorship qualification.
  • Leadership qualification.
