Job summary

A healthcare organization in Llantrisant is seeking a committed registered Pharmacy Technician to join their multidisciplinary team at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The role requires a BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with an Accredited Checking Technician qualification. You will perform key pharmacy responsibilities while enjoying excellent in-house training and a supportive work environment. This is a fixed-term position for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician

The Medicines Management Directorate has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed registered Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Our Band 5 Technicians are valued members of the multidisciplinary team at ward level and work as ACTs in the automated, Technician led dispensary. You will gain experience across a variety of clinical specialities, working closely with pharmacists and other health care professionals to deliver a high quality, patient focussed medicines management service.

We Are Committed To The Development Of The Technician Role And Can Offer Excellent In House Training, where you will be supported and encouraged to further develop yourself.

Applicants must have a BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences Or Equivalent Qualifications to enable them to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council. The successful candidate must also hold an Accredited Checking Technician qualification and be in a position to work towards the Accredited Medicines Management qualification.

We will consider applications from students due to qualify in February 2026.

This post is fixed term for 12 months to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for this as a secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current linemanager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

The main duties will depend on previous experience but will encompass:

  • Working as an Accredited Checking Technician undertaking the final check and release of prescriptions
  • Dispensing and issuing prescriptions both in the department and at ward level
  • Participation in the ward based medicines management service undertaking accurate drug histories, assessing patients medication for suitability to use, organising supplies for patients use when in hospital and at discharge and providing advice and counselling to patients ( if not accredited you will be expected to undertake the all Wales qualification to allow you to undertake this aspect of the role)
  • Participation in the induction and supervision of new Pharmacy staff and acting as a mentor for junior staff

This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
