A health service provider in Tasmania is seeking a Medical Scientist for their Anatomical Pathology department. This permanent, full-time role involves assisting in histology and cytology while applying professional judgement and scientific knowledge. Job description
The Team:

Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides Pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out of pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team at NTPS comprises a large team involving multi-disciplinary scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and Pathologists.

The Role:
  • Assist the Medical Scientist in charge in performing duties relevant to Anatomical Pathology department including Histology and Cytology
  • Apply professional judgement and scientific specialist knowledge towards performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
  • Forge a close professional relationship with interdepartmental teams and be able to confidentially communicate information with requestors and clinical personnel seeking information on samples, results or test related information.
You will need:
  • Experience of working as a Medical scientist in Histology and/or Cytology department
  • Membership of AIMS or ASC will be an advantage.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary:

$73,834 to $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution

  • Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology

  • Where these is no relevant professional body, the essential qualification must be met
