Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to work within the Medical Retina Service within Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of Medical Retina, including running theatre lists to treat AMD and nurse-led clinics, with opportunities for development as the post evolves.

Responsibilities
  • Focus on macular degeneration with a view to expanding the role within the Medical Retina specialty as the post develops.
  • Assist in the assessment, planning, examination, diagnosis and treatment of specific patient care programmes and set standards of care to provide a high-quality service.
  • Assist the consultant in assessing patients and undertaking treatment for patients with age-related macular degeneration and other conditions as the role develops.
  • Undertake fundoscopy and manage own caseload in clinic.
  • Report on photographic images for patients with age-related macular degeneration as part of the AMD service virtual clinic.
  • Give intravitreal injections as part of patient management and provide appropriate advice.
  • Exercise judgement in assessing wide-ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care.
  • Practise as a competent, fully registered, non-medical prescriber.
  • Maintain effective communication with all patients, carers and members of the healthcare team.
  • Act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide-ranging physical and emotional needs.
  • Work unsupervised, within Trust Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and professional codes of conduct; seek advice on non-routine matters from line managers or Duty Matron.
  • Ensure accurate, contemporaneous and timely care records, both written and electronic.
