Job description

As a Receptionist at TheThree Spires Medical Practice (based in Truro, Cornwall) you will help our patientsfeel comfortable when they phone or visit the Practice. You will use your empathy and customer serviceskills to welcome patients, answer the phones, deal with enquiries and book appointments.

You will be someone who is calm,a great listener and have the skills to explain sensitive information in a waythats easy to understand. You will havegood IT and keyboard skills and ideally have experience in a healthcareenvironment or on a busy reception desk.

We are a busy,forward-thinking Practice with over 18000 patients who are cared for by a teamof dedicated GPs, nurses, HCAs and physiotherapists. Working closely with your colleagues, youwill ensure that our patients receive a positive experience each and every timethey contact the Practice.

Main duties of the job

You will be confident in dealing with the public, over the telephone or face to face. You will have great communication and organisational skills.

Part-time or full-time hours are available. Our shifts start at 8.00 am and our latest finish is at 6.30 pm.

About us

The Three Spires Medical Practice is based in a purpose built health park in the heart of Truro city centre. In addition to the usual GP services, we also provide minor operations, vasectomy and well woman clinics. We have our own dedicated physiotherapy team who provide a Spinal Interface Service and MSK clinics and work with RCHT at Treliske Hospital in providing a dermatology 'see and treat' service.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To answer incoming telephone calls in a prompt and professionalmanner, responding to each call appropriately and accurately, recordingand relaying information as required.
  • Provide patients with information as requested (at all times takingconsideration to rules and procedures regarding confidentiality).
  • To receive patients in the reception area noting their attendanceon the computerised appointment system and scheduling appointments asrequested.
  • Oversee and supervise the patient waiting area.
  • Extraction of patient medical records.
  • Produce computerised repeat prescriptions.
  • To enter and update information on computerised systems includingregistration information.
  • General and confidential filing, including records, reports andmail.
  • To collate and distribute post.
  • General duties in connection with Practice administration.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • 3 X GCSE grades A-C including English and Maths or equivalent
  • NVQ L3 Customer Service
  • Certificate in medical terminology
Experience
  • Previous customer service / reception / office experience
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice.
  • Previous Medical Receptionist experience.
Knowledge and skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • IT literate.
  • Good and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of clinical appointment systems
