Job description

The Clinical Engineering department provides the equipment clinicians at Buckinghamshire Healthcare need to care for the people of the county. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Engineer to lead our multi-million-pound medical equipment programme, ensuring our fleet remains sufficient, safe, and effective including equipping major new facilities across the Trust. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for delivering high-value capital projects, introducing innovative technologies, and driving long-term strategy.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, confident in engaging with clinicians, technical specialists, and commercial partners. You will combine a passion for technology with strong commercial awareness and the determination to achieve the best value for the NHS. Ideally, you will bring both NHS and commercial experience, with the ability to influence, innovate, and deliver results in a complex environment. If you are ready to join us in shaping the future of healthcare technology and making a real impact, we would love to hear from you.

The post holder contributes to the department’s support of the medical equipment fleet with the aim that no treatment is delayed, cancelled or compromised through a failure or shortage of medical equipment that was foreseeable or preventable.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder is a senior member of the Clinical Engineering management team, reporting to senior leadership and jointly accountable for operations and long-term strategy.

A key responsibility is ensuring the Trust has sufficient, safe, and effective medical equipment in line, while managing high-value capital programmes in compliance with governance and budgetary control.

The post holder works to maximise value through adoption of new medical technologies, innovative acquisition methods, supplier negotiations, and by setting long-term medical equipment strategies as part of the Medical Equipment Panel.

The role includes developing business cases, leading evaluations, and overseeing procurement, commissioning, and training programmes to support clinical and technical staff.
