Since its official launch in March 2021, the Council on Geostrategy has established itself as a leading think tank dedicated to generating a new generation of geostrategic thinking for a more competitive age.

Our non-profit organisation focuses on shaping British strategic ambition in an international environment increasingly defined by geopolitical competition and the environmental crisis so that the United Kingdom is best able to succeed and prosper in the twenty-first century.

Role:

We seek to appoint a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, communications and organisational skills to lead our media and policy engagement. The successful applicant will have a graduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant field and a keen interest in strengthening the national power and profile of the United Kingdom, as well as foreign affairs, and international security more generally.

The Media and Policy Manager will be an integral part of our organisation's team. The successful applicant will: develop and lead media and policy engagement strategy; involve themselves in raising the organisation's profile and visibility; and nurture media and policy relations with key stakeholders in the United Kingdom and beyond.

This role is an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to immerse themselves in the world of Westminster and promote the strengthening of Britain domestically and internationally.

Tasks:

  • Working with the leadership team to enhance the publicity of the Council on Geostrategy nationally and internationally;
  • Developing and leading media and policy engagement strategy;
  • Promoting our work to media stakeholders and decision makers in Parliament and Whitehall;
  • Following media output and identifying new opportunities for engagement/ media appearances for our staff;
  • Dealing with media enquiries and setting up interviews;
  • Preparing press releases and organising press briefings;
  • Following the work of Parliament and Whitehall and identifying policy opportunities and parliamentary processes to disseminate research output and ideas;
  • Keeping the databases of key stakeholders and regularly updating them;
  • Working closely with the research and operations teams to engage and maintain media and policy relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Willingness to work ‘out of hours' when media liaison requires;
  • Other relevant duties related to the role.

Requirements:

  • Graduate (Classification of 2.1 or equivalent or above) and/or postgraduate degree in a relevant field;
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in the relevant field;
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term and impactful relationships with stakeholders;
  • Excellent organisational, time-management and interpersonal skills;
  • Advanced skills in Google Workstation, and other key IT applications; social media skills;
  • Perfect command of English and attention to detail;
  • Team worker with a proactive inclination and positive attitude;
  • A keen interest in strengthening the national power and profile of the United Kingdom, as well as foreign affairs, defence policy and international security more generally.

Salary: £35,000 per annum (gross)
