Job description

Mechanically Biased Shift Engineer – Blackburn

Salary- £53,000+
Shift Pattern:4 on / 4 off Days and nights
Pension:10% Company Contribution
Location:Blackburn

We are seeking a proactive, mechanically skilled and safety-conscious Shift Engineer to join our engineering & maintenance team. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical capability, methodical problem‑solving ability, and experience within an industrial or production environment.

About You

You’ll bring a strong mechanical background supported by recognised qualifications and at least three years of hands‑on experience in maintenance, repair, or industrial engineering settings. You’ll be someone who understands how machinery behaves and can diagnose, repair and improve plant performance with confidence and care.

You will also:

  • Have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, bearings, drives, gearboxes and moving plant.
  • Have a safety‑first mindset, backed by practical knowledge of engineering controls and site precautions.
  • Work well individually and collaboratively.
  • Take pride in delivering work to a high standard.
Required Experience

A strong base of mechanical learning and site‑based understanding across areas such as:

  • Mechanical qualifications NVQ 3 or higher
  • Solid manual handling awareness
  • Plant safety knowledge
  • Understanding of confined‑space requirements
  • Lock‑off / isolation experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical maintenance, repairs and servicing of plant and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance Electricians when required.
  • Keep plant maintenance logs, operational data and PPM documentation up to date.
  • Use tools and equipment safely with correct PPE and immediately withdraw defective tools from service.
  • Report hazards, failures or irregularities to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain workplace housekeeping and safe working conditions.
  • Carry out high‑standard PPM activity with clear written records.
  • Be willing to work reasonable overtime and support holiday cover.
