The Opportunity

Due to our ongoing success, we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions.

Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of associated outline and detailed designs to support the successful delivery of projects. Stantec is expanding its mechanical engineering team and is open to applications from candidates passionate about hydropower. Various roles are available depending on experience and qualifications. These roles would be based within the hydropower team at Stantec but may support projects in other sectors, including Water and Thermal projects.

In your role, you will work closely with the client and as part of a multidisciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical designs, and liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline, and detailed stages to produce timely and cost-effective solutions. You will develop cost-effective and innovative design solutions aligned with the client’s requirements.

About You

  • You will be Chartered or Incorporated with the IMechE, or working towards it.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant subject.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Experience in designing and specifying mechanical systems in an industrial context.
  • Experience with rotating machinery.
  • Knowledge of planning, specification, design, procurement, and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy sector projects.
  • Ideally, you will be proficient in 3D modeling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD), have experience working within a BIM environment, and have hydropower application experience. Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection is also desirable. You may also have experience with balance of plant systems such as HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, and mechanical services.
