Qualifications

  • Recognised mechanical qualification is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Support planned preventive maintenance and breakdown responses.
  • Work on pumps, valves, compressors, and HVAC systems.
  • Assist in installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP and site standards.
  • Support reliability improvements across the site.

Skills

Mechanical Engineer

Location: Saffron Walden, Essex

Salary: £45,000

Hours: Monday to Friday

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their on-site engineering team in Saffron Walden. This is a great opportunity to work within a clean, regulated environment, supporting critical production and facility systems in a modern, well-equipped plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance, servicing, and repair of plant and equipment
  • Support planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown response
  • Work on pumps, valves, compressors, pipework, HVAC and general building services systems
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in line with GMP and site standards
  • Support reliability and efficiency improvements across the site
  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers where required
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Skills & Experience Required
  • Recognised mechanical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / HNC)
  • Proven experience within a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or process environment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of GMP, health & safety, and compliance (advantageous)
  • Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas
