Job description

I’m currently working with a fast-growing start-up who are looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding engineering team. This role will focus on the design and build of robotics and custom automation machinery, offering the chance to work on cutting-edge engineering projects from concept through to delivery. This is a hands-on position covering the full lifecycle — from initial prototyping, design and testing, through to validation and supporting manufacture. It’s a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with strong design skills, creativity, and a passion for innovative automation technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for robotics and automation machinery.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and specifications using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Onshape, CATIA).
  • Prototype, test, and validate designs, analysing results and refining performance.
  • Oversee manufacturing and assembly, ensuring systems are produced to specification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (electrical, software, manufacturing).
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and technical documentation across multiple projects.
  • Drive innovation and contribute to continuous improvement in design and build processes.
What’s Needed
  • Degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong background in mechanical design, ideally within robotics, automation, or special-purpose machinery.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and GD&T principles.
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with automation and control systems.
  • Experience with prototyping electronics (e.g. Arduino, sensors) or simulation tools.
  • Previous experience working with contract manufacturers or suppliers.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits package (including 25 days holiday).
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Professional growth and development opportunities.
  • A collaborative, innovative work environment.
  • The chance to be part of exciting projects in robotics and automation.
