Job description

Mechanical Engineer

Role & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our design team in Edinburgh. You will work on the mechanical design for some of our new phased array satellite communication systems. You will produce design options for our new products, with a particular focus on modularity and ease of assembly, analysing the predicted performance to ensure the optimum mechanical design. With new design projects in the pipeline, designing for potentially challenging applications and environments will become a focus of your work, so experience in an aerospace or related field would be advantageous. Familiarity with designing to applicable mechanical requirements, standards and/or certifications would also be a plus. You will work as part of a design team, liaising regularly with engineers from other disciplines, in particular RF and test engineers.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • 3+ years’ commercial experience in a mechanical engineer role, with aerospace industry experience a plus
  • Hands‑on experience in the design of complex mechanical structures and assemblies
  • Innovative approaches to how designs can be assembled or manufactured
  • Experience working with mechanical design tools e.g. Solidworks, Creo or Catia and of computational modelling tools (FEA) for thermal analysis, vibrational analysis and stress analysis e.g. ANSYS
  • A good understanding of technical design limitations and experience of providing solutions for practical mechanical design issues is essential
  • Concepting and new‑idea generation for new products, including the assessment of risks involved with new designs and concepts
  • An understanding of design for manufacture is important, alongside some experience of working with standard manufacturing technologies – machining, 3D printing, additive layer manufacturing, plating etc
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi‑task whilst working on different projects / designs in parallel
  • As well as good technical knowledge and experience, a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar is preferred, however we will consider a relevant length of experience in place of formal qualifications

We endeavour to respond quickly to all applications so if interested please apply by filling out the form you will find below.
