We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the operation and maintenance of mechanical building services across the university estate. This role involves day-to-day maintenance, compliance checks, fault finding, and supporting project work, ensuring systems remain safe, efficient and compliant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate mechanical systems across campus (heating, ventilation, water treatment, fire systems, etc.)
  • Carry out inspections, fault finding and diagnostic surveys
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations such as Legionella, gas safety and asbestos
  • Support Senior Mechanical Engineers with testing, commissioning, and on-site standards
  • Assist with mechanical design and installation for refurbishment and new build projects
  • Help with handover and training for new systems and projects
  • Maintain accurate records, drawings and documentation using CAFM systems
  • Support sustainability initiatives and energy‑efficient solutions across the estate
What We’re Looking For
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
  • Experience working with mechanical systems in large estates
  • Knowledge of health and safety and compliance standards
  • Familiarity with mechanical installation techniques and modern building services practices
  • Experience with BMS systems and water systems, including Legionella control
  • Understanding of gas and pressure installations, lifts, heating and air systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to prioritise work
  • A flexible approach, including willingness to work outside normal hours
  • A clean driving licence (car ownership is an advantage)
  • Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, repairs and installation
  • Experience working to reduce energy bills and CO₂ emissions
  • Understanding of construction stages and IT systems used in estates management
