Job description
Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team in our Water Production Division, based at our Ashford Common WTW Site.

As a successful candidate, you will use your mechanical & electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, helping to ensure that all sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water\'s environmental impact by helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors is a priority, complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertaking reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fixing or escalating as required; installing new plant and equipment in line with current standards and regulations.
  • Recording work and asset information to improve business performance; identifying future risks and recommending changes for resolution as part of daily activities.
  • Providing specialist technical advice where appropriate, keeping up-to-date knowledge, and coaching/training staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering an excellent customer experience and contributing to overall customer satisfaction; engaging with internal and external customers in a timely, professional and respectful manner.

Base Location - Ashford Common WTW – TW15 1RU

Working Arrangements

Working hours - 38 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to an additional £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

Equipment - All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a van when on duty and call.

You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.

  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions or escalate if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, on your own initiative, to design to standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in different teams, showing respect for others and supporting development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
