Overview

A well‑established award winning multi‑disciplinary consultancy has an immediate requirement for an experienced senior level mechanical design engineer to join their design team in their Manchester office. It is essential that you have experience within the automotive, commercial/industrial, retail, residential and education sectors and experience in clean/dry rooms desirable. The successful candidate will be responsible, under the leadership of the Director/Associate Director, for the project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering task(s) for numerous schemes for client’s cross sector. This will include the creation, development of and finalising engineering design solutions of mechanical services elements, working with other team members and project teams together with direct liaison with the client and other design team professionals. Attendance at regular project meetings, site inspections and monitoring or works at a site level will be key functions.

Responsibilities
  • Project management of medium to large scale projects and individual engineering tasks across multiple sectors.
  • Creation, development and finalisation of engineering design solutions for mechanical services elements.
  • Working with team members and project teams, and direct liaison with clients and other design professionals.
  • Attendance at regular project meetings, site inspections and monitoring of works at site level.
  • Completion of survey work and site inspections.
  • Undertaking design calculations using various methods, from hand calculations to software‑based modelling.
  • Preparation of drawn information, technical specifications and technical reports.
  • Identification and resolution of problems early.
  • Exhibition of active project risk management.
  • Peer review and checking design information prepared by others.
  • Management of a project‑specific team of engineers.
  • Maintenance of records and archives to company standards.
  • Allocation and management of project‑specific workload of graduates, project engineers and admin staff.
  • Management of project income and costs, and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Management of client relationships on specific projects.
  • Looking for additional opportunities within existing and new client relationships.
  • Taking responsibility for own professional and personal development.
  • Input and some responsibility for professional and personal development of team members, staff performance and development reviews, and mentoring of staff.
Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with at least ten years post‑graduate practical design experience.
  • Accreditation from the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
  • Building services/architectural engineering degree and/or master’s.
  • Accreditation via CIBSE Energy Assessor Scheme for the production and lodgement of non‑domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPC).
  • High level of computer literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Autodeskvit MEP, Cymap and ideally EDSL Tas.
  • Experience within automotive, commercial/industrial, retail, residential and education sectors, with clean/dry room experience desirable.
  • Ability to operate as part of a wider project team within appropriate authority levels.
  • Confidence in representing the company to a variety of clients and outside organisations.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet defined targets and deadlines.
