Mechanical Day Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Maintenance team at Lancashire Renewables Ltd. working at our Leyland facility.

What you’ll be doing

As a Mechanical Day Technician, you will be vital in ensuring the seamless operation of Lancashire Renewable’s activities, providing support to various operational functions as needed. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities across multiple areas within the organisation. As a versatile and reliable team member, you will adapt to the changing needs of the business, ensuring the consistent and efficient delivery of services. Working in line with the organisation's policies, procedures, and safety standards, you will maintain high levels of efficiency and effectiveness in all tasks, playing a key part in the company's success.

What you will bring

To be successful in this position, it is essential that you have completed a recognised apprenticeship or hold a qualification at ONC/HNC level in Mechanical Engineering.

While we offer and encourage training and development opportunities, the following skills and knowledge would be highly beneficial:

  • Strong track record in delivering both planned preventative and reactive maintenance, working to structured work packs, schedules, and programmes. This includes the upkeep of processing equipment, mechanical systems, and broader site infrastructure at a waste treatment facility.
  • Experience of monitoring, recording, and reporting on the performance of processing assets and site infrastructure contributing to long-term asset reliability.
  • Ability to respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and faults across mechanical systems and site infrastructure, minimising disruption and down-time.
  • Flexible and dependable in providing maintenance and operational support cover when required.
  • Competent in using maintenance management systems to track, plan, and manage all maintenance activities.
  • Experience in coordinating and overseeing the activities of subcontractors as required.
  • Ability to assist in the delivery of project-related maintenance activities.
  • Thorough understanding and practical experience in applying safe systems of work, including Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) protocols.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear handovers and maintain accurate logbook records.
  • Proficient in using business systems for operational and reporting tasks.
  • Solid understanding of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) procedures and the importance of compliance in a regulated environment.
  • Waste process knowledge an advantage.

Who are we?

Lancashire Renewables Ltd was established for the operation and management of the two waste treatment facilities built for the Lancashire Waste Contract.

Our two facilities in Thornton and Leyland are manned 365 days a year. Both sites can process over 5,000 tonnes of residual (black bin bag) waste per week and divert 95% of this material away from landfill.

Our aim is to achieve a sustainable future for Lancashire by providing services to process biodegradable and non-biodegradable community waste and our people are vital in helping us achieve this.
