Job Description
Happier Lives Institute (HLI) is an independent think tank that pioneers wellbeing science to find the most cost-effective ways globally to improve lives. We provide charity recommendations and advise donors and policymakers who want to make a massive difference.
HLI is at a pivotal stage of growth. This year, we published the first ever global comparison of charities in the World Happiness Report. We assessed how much happiness NGOs create per dollar spent, and found some are hundreds of times better than others. We are gaining significant traction with donors, policymakers, and in the media.
That’s why we’re looking for a passionate, proactive and versatile Marketing Manager to elevate our communications, amplify our reach, and help drive donations to our recommended charities and the Institute itself. We need your expertise to share our findings and attract support from diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
- Content Creation and Management
- Create compelling narratives and high-quality content to effectively communicate our research findings to different stakeholder groups through social media, email campaigns, the website (e.g.), and other channels.
- Assist the research team with editing and refining donor-focused materials, research summaries, and marketing materials.
- Digital Campaigns
- Plan and manage campaigns around key events, fundraising drives, and research launches.
- Manage Google Ads and other paid ads for our content and campaigns e.g. Meta.
- Analytics
- Analyze the effectiveness of different outreach and fundraising approaches, continuously refining our strategies based on data-driven insights (e.g. through Google Analytics).
- Website Management
- Help ensure HLI’s website remains user-friendly, visually appealing, and up-to-date.
- Collaborate with our web developers to implement new features, like enhanced donation flows or research presentation formats.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with the Director, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Impact Officer, and researchers to translate findings into digestible and impactful communications.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including effective giving platforms, journalists, funders, and partner organisations.
Role Requirements
- Experience:
- 3+ years in marketing, communications or fundraising, ideally in the nonprofit, start up or research sectors.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing successful outreach and fundraising strategies, preferably in the non-profit or effective altruism sector.
- Familiarity with executing public-facing campaigns.
- Experience of working independently in a global, remote team.
- Skills:
- Proven ability to design, experiment and execute successful communications and marketing campaigns.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with experience translating complex ideas into accessible content.
- Proficiency in managing social media platforms, email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp), and CMS systems (e.g., WordPress, Elementor).
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate the effectiveness of various outreach methods.
- Familiarity with data-driven decision-making, using tools like Google Analytics or other performance trackers.
- Familiarity with WordPress (Elementor plug-in) to efficiently work on our website (though we have web developers).
- Basic design and video editing skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, Capcut).
- Attributes:
- A strong interest in HLI’s mission and evidence-based approaches to improving global wellbeing.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a start up like, remote work environment.
- Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
