Overview

The Marketing department is a dynamic and busy team working together to promote Haberdashers’ Boys’ and Girls’ schools (Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools). All marketing, communication, PR and design is managed through the department and it plays a fundamental role in brand awareness, pupil recruitment, parent and alumni support. The department’s primary role is to support the schools’ various teams, including working closely with the Admissions teams to organise events and communications such as Open Days and other admission-related mornings. We also support the Commercial team to promote venue hire of the schools’ facilities and the Development team for fundraising activities and events. In addition, the department supports the overall school with outward-facing collateral for events, such as programmes, postcards and promoting day-to-day school operations.

The role will include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Team – Update and highlight daily workloads to your manager, ensuring deadlines, brief and budget are met. Maintain open communication with your manager to ensure transparency.
  • Brand – Act as brand guardian for the department; ensure brand guidelines, tone of voice, colours, typefaces, logos and crests are used consistently in all marketing material. Identify ways to improve branded material and determine when to evolve brand guidelines. Stay updated on industry trends in school marketing and education; keep abreast of local and national education news; uphold the ethos and aims of the school.
  • Strategy and planning – Support the team to execute the annual marketing and communication strategy and budget. Support the Programme Manager to execute the marketing information system (statistics, target market, competitor research) to enable strategic decision making. Support research to inform future marketing strategy.
  • Marketing – Support the Programme Manager and collaborate with other departments to develop new marketing solutions. Implement tone of voice across internal and external communications. Organise and manage annual and termly publications for both schools. Adapt and create templates for items for concerts, conferences and talks, as well as internal school event material (Drama, Music, Art, Sport, etc). Plan and purchase merchandise for admissions and departments.
  • Photography – Provide support with photography at school events as needed.
  • Admissions and Development – Support updates to marketing materials such as prospectuses and newsletters. Assist with materials for the development team for alumni events. Assist with marketing and publicity for major school events such as Open Day.
Person specification

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in Marketing, Humanities, Media or a related field
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a Marketing role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, especially with brand guidelines and proofreading
  • Ability to write dynamic and engaging copy for electronic and printed publications
  • Delivery within agreed timings in a fast-paced environment
  • Hardworking, positive and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to extract correct content and context from limited information from staff outside the team
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Attention to detail with ability to maintain accurate accounts and stock of merchandise
  • Understand the creative vision of the department and take direction from senior team members
