Job Purpose

As the Manufacturing Systems Engineer you will be responsible for leading the specification, implementation, and support of automation & MES.

Key projects will be to facilitate the transition of traditionally paper-based activities to digital. These projects will be aligned with improving manufacturing related KPI’s, i.e. production efficiency, customer delivery and sustainability. This role is fundamental in facilitating the implementation and take-up of Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing related processes as well as implementation of automated manufacturing and assembly projects.

Job Context

The Manufacturing Engineering team work with industrial, process & quality teams across all Lucy Electric manufacturing sites.

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer role will require close alignment with both shop floor operations and our IT systems team.

Job Dimensions

Visits to other Lucy Electric sites (within the UK & overseas) as required. Overseas working expectation approximately 8-10 weeks per annum.

Key Accountabilities

These will include:

  • Develop software solutions (aligned with business systems) for data analysis (dashboards) and reporting.
  • Participate in the support of IoT cloud platform, IIoT hardware and firmware.
  • Undertake project work to identify and develop new technology as required. Lead in the areas of MES / ERP and Industry 4.0.
  • Use MES / ERP to enhance business productivity and enhance visibility / analytics of factory operations.
  • Integration of MES / ERP / MS Teams with production and test processes.
  • Work with IT to facilitate the development of new and existing processes in order to enable the migration towards digital manufacturing processes and Industry 4.0.
  • Contribute towards project management activities to ensure technical deliverables are achieved within time and budget.
  • Development and maintenance of MES / ERP templates aligned with LE management system.
  • Promote engineering excellence within the business, provide coaching and leadership.
  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required by the leadership team in order to maintain alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of ERP / MES & digital technologies.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Educated to Degree level in an applicable Engineering, Manufacturing, or Computer Science discipline.
  • HND or similar is acceptable if a level of relevant knowledge and experience (10+ years) can be demonstrated.
  • Knowledge of using and maintaining databases (SQL), IT infrastructure, scripting and software tools to automate process flows.
  • Experience of engineering process flow and associated documentation.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory concepts.
  • Understanding of networking concepts (i.e., TCP/IP, Wi‑Fi, 5G).
  • Project management experience from concept to implementation.
  • Proven track record relating to problem solving and process development.
  • Understanding of Lean, Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement manufacturing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD and Product Lifecycle Management tools, ideally Siemens NX & Teamcenter.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft D365 and Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
