Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer – Automation in Whitstable, Kent to support product development and production improvement. The ideal candidate has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, hands-on experience in manufacturing, and proficiency in 3D CAD tools like Creo. Responsibilities include participation in NPI projects and quality improvement activities as part of a well-established engineering group. This is a permanent role offering competitive salary between £40,000 and £50,000.

Qualifications

Manufacturing Engineer – Automation

Whitstable, Kent | £40,000–£50,000 | Permanent | Mon–Thu 08:00–16:30, Fri 08:00–13:30

You will support the manufacturing team by taking responsibility for customer requirements, product/process development and production improvement.

This role sits within a well-established engineering group known for providing high-technology interconnect, sensor and antenna solutions across various sectors.

You will work across the engineering lifecycle with a growing focus on automation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) projects and engineering change activity, delivering stable process design and technical insight
  • Support the team in the completion of product and process risk analyses (e.g. DFMEA, PFMEA)
  • Provide installation/commissioning support for automated equipment and assist in validation (test plans, acceptance criteria)
  • Investigate and solve quality issues in guidance with standards like ISO 9001 and AS9100
  • Support supplier, process, and customer quality improvement activities, including addressing non-conformances and providing help to resolve customer concerns
Requirements:
  • Minimum Level 6 /BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar subject
  • Currently Chartered/Incorporated or working towards chartership
  • Extensive hands‑on experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment involving tooling and fixture design / development
  • Ability to use 3D CAD software (Creo preferred)
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Infor XA
  • Experience using PDM/document control tools and facilitating engineering change processes
  • Familiarity with industrial control concepts (PLCs, HMIs, motors, sensors) and automation integration, fault finding and first‑line maintenance
  • Familiarity with key APQP tools such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), FMEAs, Control Plans
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 9001 and AS9100)
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Eligibility: Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship)
