Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager – Purchasing is responsible for managing all activities pertaining to the purchasing of goods and services for all operations of the property.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

These functions are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position.

  • Manage the purchasing process including the buying, selling and distributions aspects of the company.
  • Review new project proposals for the company.
  • Communicate with the marketing team to effect working strategies.
  • Analyze existing purchasing processes for performance.
  • Implement improvements to existing purchasing processes and delivery systems.
  • Handle contract negotiations with vendors and suppliers.
  • Identify ideal suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Review department requisitions, bid out requisitions where appropriate, determine types of procurement and vendors to be utilized.
  • Communicate organizational policies, procedures, and philosophies to associates to create a strong working relationship.
  • Ensure adequate inventory and product is available to meet the company’s needs.
  • Prepare instruction/procedure manuals as required to assist the department with all new systems and policies.
  • Prepare detailed reports regarding all aspects of the procurement process as required.
  • Establish strong professional working relationships with suppliers.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with vendors.
  • Evaluate and analyze purchasing trends and price trends to identify forecasting demand and minimize purchasing costs.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Adhere to all Virginia Lottery Regulations and Departmental Standard Operating Procedures.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Attend seminars when needed.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

(Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis)

Minimum four years’ experience in purchasing. Associate degree.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc.):

  • Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Virginia Lottery.
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Must successfully pass drug screening.
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Prior experience in the Gaming industry strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience opening new properties/outlets strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Microsoft Office and materials management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills to set clear expectations with direct reports.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent work ethic.
  • Material management, inventory accounting storage and distribution.
ABILITY TO:
  • Be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
  • Provide training and development to direct reports.
  • Have a positive team player attitude, be energetic and driven.
  • Interact with team members and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Promote teamwork and a constructive work environment.
