Overview

Hayward Hawk is working with a client who is looking to appoint a newly qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) to cover a 12-month maternity leave. This is an excellent opening for someone at the start of their post-qualification journey who wants to develop in a fast-paced, professional environment with direct exposure to the Financial Controller.

Responsibilities

This role offers a blend of technical accounting and commercial exposure, making it ideal for a recently qualified accountant looking to build their experience and career. You’ll take ownership of key deliverables while learning from senior leadership, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and contributing to business performance insights.

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and MI packs.
  • Supporting the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis process.
  • Assisting with year-end statutory accounts and liaising with auditors.
  • Maintaining strong financial controls, reconciliations, and compliance.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns and supporting wider tax compliance.
  • Providing ad-hoc analysis to support senior decision-making.
Qualifications

We’re keen to speak with candidates who are:

  • Fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experienced in accounts preparation, audit, or tax compliance, ideally with practice training.
  • Confident using accounting systems (Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, CaseWare, Iris) and advanced in Excel.
  • Organised, detail-focused, and comfortable delivering to deadlines.
  • Strong communicators with the ability to work closely with a Financial Controller and senior stakeholders.
