An automotive manufacturing leader is seeking Level 3 Maintenance Technicians for a 4-year apprenticeship in Swindon, starting August 2026. This role offers hands-on experience in maintenance and engineering technologies within the state-of-the-art production facility. Candidates should have at least 5 GCSEs at level 5/C, including Maths and English, and demonstrate teamwork, initiative, and strong communication skills. The pressings and sub-assembly facilities in Swindon are the initial stages of the process chain for the Painted Body which consists of a varied technologies both new and old.
Relying on close working relationships with production and internal/external partners alike, the Maintenance department is tasked with delivering maintenance activities and projects which sustain the high levels of our equipment performance required to meet production targets.
The training that you receive during your apprenticeship involves studying modern, state-of-the-art automotive production technology as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques.
The BMW Group offers an enhanced level 3 BTEC Advanced Manufacturing Engineering apprenticeship commencing end of August 2026 with multiple vacancies available for this role. The four-year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology, focusing on general maintenance of our state-of-the-art production facility and systems, including robotics, controls systems, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding, and many more.
Alongside the practical engineering skills that are gained, the program will also focus on your personal and professional development where you will have exposure to a number of business techniques such as Agile, Lean Manufacturing and Problem Solving.
The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment at the Oxford apprentice training school where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence. Your training will cover a wide range of engineering disciplines such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits, control systems, fluid power, programmable logic controllers, welding and more.
In the second and third year you will continue with the academic requirements of the program alongside on-the-job training. Your on-the-job training will comprise of placements in a number of different areas of the business, with particular focus on the maintenance departments and may also involve placements at other BMW UK sites. If at the end of your second year you meet your targeted grades you will have the opportunity to continue your fully funded academic training beyond L3 onto an HNC in Engineering.
In your fourth year your on-the-job training will continue and will become more targeted to your final job role and where the job requires it you will start working a shift pattern to help better integrate you with your team.
A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at level 5/C (or above) including Maths and English.

That’s why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes, and behaviours. These include team working, the ability to work without close supervision, quality focus, good communication skills, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to take on responsibility and show accountability for your work.
