The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance in line with all processes, procedures and policies that meet organisational standards/requirements, including Health & Safety Policy, HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda) and SFG20. Implement new or revised policies within own work areas. Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services from the PPM planner, ensuring that operational standards are maintained at all times. Duties may include fault finding, minor repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments. Assess problems to determine the best course of action, including complex technical issues. Maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises, ensuring they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Job responsibilities

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - Electrical based in Wokingham (Wokingham Hospital, 41 Barkham Road). This is a full-time, permanent role working 37.5 hours per week. It is a mobile role covering Basingstoke & West Berkshire. The starting salary is from £39,000 (depending on experience) plus on-call allowance.

Requirements for the role:

  • Qualifications - at least one of the following:
  • BTEC City & Guilds plus relevant experience and training
  • Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Install or Electrical Maintenance
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft trained and registered Approved Electrician
  • City & Guilds (18th edition) or current qualification to the latest standard of BS 7671
  • Full UK Driving License

Additional requirements:

  • Driving licence is essential
  • Comfortable using technological devices to log jobs
  • On-Call availability
  • Desirable to have industry experience
  • Ability to work alone and/or as part of a wider team; collaborate with other Technical Disciplines

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, NHSPS Technical Guidance, processes and procedures, statutory regulations, and HTMs
  • Implement new or revised practices and policies within own work areas
  • Deliver scheduled, reactive and remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner (CAFM), helpdesk or Technical Services Supervisor
  • Fault finding, minor repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment in critical environments
  • Ability to assess problems to determine the best course of action and communicate technical information to stakeholders
