Qualifications

  • Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification gained through an apprenticeship or study, ideally at NVQ L3.
  • Knowledge of permit systems, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Understanding of maintaining engineering systems within a manufacturing environment.

Overview

Engineering Team Leader – Maintenance Shift Leader A dynamic, technical role leading a team of Engineers to maintain and improve plant performance, achieving maximum machine availability targets.

Responsibilities
  • Lead an engineering shift team, creating a high‑performing culture where team members are motivated, engaged, and supported.
  • Plan and prioritise shift workload to meet production targets, maximising machinery uptime.
  • Execute the planned preventive maintenance schedule to minimise disruption to production.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment comply with relevant legislation, maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
  • Adopt and enforce the permit to work system, ensuring contractors and colleagues work safely.
  • Apply GMP compliance, ensuring manufacturing unit food safety requirements are met.
  • Document shift activities accurately and in real time using CMMS, complete relevant reports, root cause analysis studies, and contribute to daily meetings.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification gained through an apprenticeship or study, ideally at NVQ L3.
  • Knowledge of permit systems, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Practical fault‑finding experience on various manufacturing machinery types.
  • Display PLC awareness and fault‑finding capabilities.
  • Understanding of maintaining engineering systems within a manufacturing environment; food or FMCG manufacturing experience desirable.
