Are you hands-on, solution-focused, and passionate about making homes safer and healthier? At Hightown, we are looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Operative to join our Healthy Homes team - helping us deliver high-quality repairs and remedial work that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

This is more than just a maintenance role. You will be at the frontline of improving living conditions, tackling issues like damp and mould, and ensuring our properties meet the highest standards of safety and comfort.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out essential repairs and remedial work, including mould treatment and prevention using specialist techniques. Replace and repair plasterboard, complete patch repairs, and apply anti-mould products in line with COSHH regulations.
  • Perform finishing carpentry and joinery tasks - from fitting door frames to installing trim and moulding.
  • Use a range of hand and power tools to build, install, and maintain fixtures like cabinets, doors, and windows.
  • Maintain stock levels and equipment, ensuring timely purchases and efficient service delivery.
  • Identify and assess hazards using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Report Category 1 and 2 hazards promptly, documenting findings with before-and-after photos.
  • Provide guidance to staff on repairs and safety improvements when needed.
  • Ensure all work complies with Hightown’s health and safety policies and relevant legislation.
  • Deliver a first-time fix approach wherever possible, ensuring every visit reflects Hightown’s commitment to excellent customer service. Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, resolving issues and fostering a positive brand image.
  • Report communal issues such as fire safety risks, grounds maintenance concerns, and cleaning standards. Plan routes efficiently to minimise travel time and maximise productivity. Maintain your works van to a high standard and ensure all receipts and records are submitted accurately.
What You Will Bring
  • Proven experience in property maintenance, carpentry, or a similar trade.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH and HHSRS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
