Job description

A successful university campus is about so much more than buildings. It’s about the environment, the atmosphere and the people – creating that sense of home that will help students feel safe, secure, and help them thrive. At UPP, we understand just how important this is and that’s why at each of the universities we partner with we have a dedicated onsite team offering a range of facilities management services designed to support the safety of the building and ensure students enjoy a high quality of life throughout their stay.

Here at UPP we have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Supervisor / Manager (Electrical or Commercial Gas bias) to work as part of our teams in Euston/Kings Cross and Stratford.

This is a permanent full-time position working 37.5 hours per week from 9.00am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday. The salary is up to £60,000 per annum dependant on relevant experience and qualifications.

The role will effectively lead, plan and manage the site’s maintenance function, guiding and developing the team of four maintenance assistants and being hands-on when needed to ensure an excellent service to residents.

The maintenance function includes planned life cycle and responsive maintenance for our 1,700 student rooms in line with the Service Level Agreements.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with appropriate statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure service standards are achieved in line with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Effective management of key contract processes such as response times and temporary fix notification.

  • Produce reports, including service delivery statistics.

  • Prepare and deliver the annual PPM programme of works through directly employed and sub-contracted staff, in a timely manner and within budget.

  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and maintenance repairs.

  • Provision and implementation of the long-term maintenance and refurbishment plan through the undertaking of conditions surveys.

  • Plan staff resources and manage the Maintenance Team including monitoring training records and staff performance, ensuring service is effectively planned, achieved and continuously improved.

We are looking for you to be 18th Edition qualified or a Commercial Gas Safe Engineer with experience in managing or supervising a Maintenance Team in a similar environment to ours, along with:

  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance regimes for all building elements – mechanical, electrical, public health and building fabric.

  • Knowledge of Statutory compliance and Health & Safety legislation.

  • Resilience and able to work under pressure in a busy environment and meet deadlines.

  • Effective communicator with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Ability to lead by example and have a positive impact on the team.

In return, we are offering a fun and interesting environment to work in with a competitive salary and a great benefits package which includes 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, life insurance, pension, training, two paid volunteering days each year, cycle to work scheme, store discounts, as well as discounts from a variety of top retailers, restaurants, gyms and more.

Our people are at the heart of how we operate.

UPP welcomes all applications and recognises the value of having a diverse and inclusive culture, which reflects the communities we work with and has a positive impact on our people, our student residents, and our university partners.
