Job summary

A leading facilities management provider is seeking a permanent Electrician to join their Ministry of Justice account in Nottingham. This role involves ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical systems within prison facilities. Responsibilities include performing maintenance, testing installations to IEE regulations, and responding to breakdowns. Candidates should be qualified in Electrical Systems with experience in maintenance activities. Support for obtaining 18th Edition certification if needed is provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical maintenance and installation activities is required.
  • Knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations is necessary.

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Lowdham Grange, this role is based on-site.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

Electrician plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

You will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met across the contract.
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Performing planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnosing/replacing failed domestic electrical components.
  • Actively fault finding and problem solving on domestic electrical systems.
  • Testing and inspecting electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations.
  • Undertaking electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services, and oversee the BMS System.
  • Supporting zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals, and handling additional tasks as directed by your line manager.

What makes this role unique is you will test and inspect electrical installations across prison facilities in accordance with the 18th IEE wiring regulations as amended from time to time. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

We want to hear from you if you have/are:
  • Appropriate technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above).
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution, installation, and testing.
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative.
  • Capable of working at heights.

Ideally you will be qualified in 18th Edition (however if you currently only have 17th Edition, we will sponsor you to upgrade to the 18th Edition; terms and conditions apply) with experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial environment.

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have IT skills and experience in fire alarm systems and CCTV systems to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
