Job description

Thorn Baker are currently recruiting for an experienced Machine Operator/General Operative to join their clients growing team. This is an excellent temp-to-perm opportunity for candidates with a background in manufacturing and operating Webster Bennett / Lumsden type machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Webster Bennett / Lumsden type machinery or similar equipment. The lathes are manually operated and not CNC controlled so would be very much reliant on your knowledge.

  • Work to precise tolerances and product standards using vernier callipers and measuring tools.

  • Perform general housekeeping and asset care duties.

  • Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and site protocols.

  • Operate forklift trucks or static lifting equipment (full training provided).

  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and stock control.

Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience operating Webster Bennett or Lumsden lathes (essential).

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a manufacturing or lathe machine operating role.

  • Strong understanding of quality control procedures.

  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain high housekeeping standards on the shop floor.

  • Flexibility to support various site tasks, including manual handling and production support.

What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly pay at £12.55/hour. With the potential for this to rise to £13ph.

  • 37-hour working week with an early finish on Fridays.

  • Monday to Thursday 7:30am-4:30pm & Fridays 7:30am-12:20pm
  • Temp-to-perm role with long-term career prospects.

  • Full training on equipment and safety procedures
