Job description
Overview

Lung Cancer Screening (formerly known as the Targeted Lung Health Check programme) is a national programme of work which involves identifying and screening patients who may be at high risk of developing lung cancer. Patients aged between 55 and 74 with a current or ex-smoker record on their GP notes will be invited for a Lung Cancer Screening appointment and their risk for lung cancer will be assessed. If high risk for lung cancer, they will be offered a low dose CT thorax (LDCT) in a community setting.

The Screening nurse for the Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) programme will be working with patients, clinicians, and other partners, to implement Lung Cancer Screening across the MSE ICB. They will support the Responsible Assessor with delivery of the programme. They will be working closely with the MSEFT Respiratory Department (Broomfield), Community providers and the ICB Commissioners.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all LDCT reports are reviewed and triaged appropriately – supporting the setting up of MDT for those patients with significant findings.
  • Apply appropriate actions when clinical findings are identified as part of the assessment for eligibility; this may include facilitating further management in primary and/or secondary care.
  • Enter clinical data and information into the appropriate clinical system with a focus on data completeness and audit.
  • Communicate with patients and general practice about the findings of the LDCT.
  • Adhere to the details of the standard protocol and quality assurance standards.
