Job description

The locum post will strengthen a highly innovative and progressive interventional radiology department at The Royal Marsden. The post is advertised initially as a fixed term locum for 12 months, however the post has secured long-term funding.

The post holder will need specialised training in vascular and non-vascular interventional Radiology. The department specialises in Oncological intervention. The work includes targeted ablation techniques, including Microwave ablation, Cryoablation, RFA and Irreversible Electroporation with the use of robotic devices, together with hepatobiliary and urological intervention and vascular techniques including trans arterial embolization (TAE). The team supports clinical oncology with the placement of fiducial markers and is involved with innovative therapeutic interventions in the context of clinical trials including intra-tumoral immunotherapy. The interventional suite on the Fulham Road site has recently been updated and has the Philips Azurion 7 Ceiling-Mounted M20 IR system with Cone Beam CT capabilities and fusion software. In addition, IR have unrestricted access to CT (Siemens Definition Edge) with dedicated time for procedures under general anaesthetic including four dedicated General Anaesthetic sessions. There is a separate ultrasound room for biopsies and drainages.

Main duties of the job

The expansion of the consultant team is designed to facilitate expansion of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures on the Sutton site. Also to allow for the introduction of dedicated interventional radiology clinics, which will be run in conjunction with nursing staff to facilitate pre-procedure assessments for patients and post-procedure follow up, essential for developing excellence within the service and facilitate radiology-lead research activity.

A component of the work will be in the diagnostic imaging department, with two dedicated CT reporting sessions per week. There will also be a requirement to cover the Cyberknife MDT 1:2.

The post holder will join a wider team of interventional radiologists providing an established on-call service (1:8) for the Royal Marsden, Chelsea & Westminster, West Middlesex Hospital and The Royal Brompton.

The post holder will join an enthusiastic, cohesive team which is motivated to deliver excellence in clinical care and participate in radiology research and innovation. A proven track record in research is desirable but not essential.

Applicants should hold a CCT in Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology or be within three months of gaining CCT. FRCR or equivalent and full registration with the GMC are essential. Some research experience would be an advantage. Any candidate who wishes to be considered for part-time working is welcome to apply.
