Are you a dedicated and experienced Chemical Pathologist looking for your next challenge? We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join our team, where you will play a pivotal role in providing expert diagnostic support and delivering excellent patient care. This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs): 8 clinical Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions including two laboratory sessions and 2 supporting programmed activities (SPAs).
The department of Metabolic Medicine is based at Edward Building (4th floor) at the new Royal Liverpool Hospital site. The laboratory services at Royal Liverpool Hospital merged with those at Aintree Hospital in 2012 to form Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL). The main hub laboratories are based at the Royal site with spoke laboratories at Aintree, Broadgreen, and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed clinician to join our consultant team. The new consultant will share the provision of outpatient clinics, including virtual and face to face clinics, in metabolic bone diseases and lipid disorders. The post holder will also be expected to lead and develop the bone metabolic services across the LUHFT as well as supporting the research in bone metabolism. Any other sub-specialist interest which dovetails with the requirements of the department and the hospital will be encouraged and supported. The candidate will also be supported to develop a research interest, with excellent opportunities to collaborate within the Trust and University.
The candidate will be expected to manage 4 bone metabolic and 1 lipid outpatient clinic per week. The successful applicant will join the other consultants to provide advice on the management of biochemical abnormalities in inpatients within LUHFT and provide advice and guidance to General Practitioners on a one in five rota.
Main Duties
The duties outlined above are not intended to be exhaustive and may change as the needs of the department alter in line with current agendas. This job description will be subject to periodic review and amendment in accordance with the needs of the Trust.
The consultant appointed for this job will be provided with office space (to share with colleagues), personal computer available and a secretary to support admin work.
The post holder will be expected to follow national governance standards as set out in the Healthcare Commission document Standards for Better Health. In addition, the post holder will actively participate in the Trusts clinical governance strategy. Consultants are expected to provide a lead for, and undertake, quality improvement and clinical audit. The post-holder will be required to comply with the principles of research governance and Caldecott requirements.
