Overview

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Locum Consultant to our Community Paediatric team in Newham for 2025. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team within a multidisciplinary Community Child Health service in East London.

Consultant Community Paediatrician (up to 10PA) – the post will have a neuro-disability focus with weekly clinics in both neurodevelopment and motor disorders, and will be lead for the Developmental assessment clinic pathway.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical activities: Consultant clinics and related administrative work; Clinical triage of referrals; Clinical supervision as "+"Consultant of the Day" including Child protection; MDT clinical discussions or meetings; any clinical patient-related meetings.
  • Teaching: contribute to departmental teaching; contribute to teaching of medical students particularly in relation to community child health services.
  • Management and leadership: clinical supervision; clinical governance; management supervision; pathway leadership.
  • Audit, Quality Improvement and Service Development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Current full UK GMC registration and Licence to Practise
  • MRCPCH or equivalent

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree in related child health or medical speciality (e.g. MSc, MD, PhD)
  • DCH, MBA or other diploma or higher degree in a relevant field

Professional training

  • Entry on GMC specialist register
  • At least 2 years Higher Specialist Training or equivalent clinical experience in Community Paediatrics
  • At least 2 years General Professional Training in Paediatrics
  • In process of applying for specialist registration via portfolio pathway

Desirable

  • SPIN or Diploma in Paediatric Neurodisability

Clinical Knowledge

  • Extensive experience of working in a multidisciplinary Child Development Team
  • Competent use of Griffiths III or other developmental assessment tool
  • Experience in managing children with complex neurological and developmental problems
  • Competent in management of common general paediatric problems – acute and chronic
  • Up to date with Level 3 competences in Safeguarding Children
  • Competent in supervision of Child Protection Medical Assessments
  • Experience working in partnership with Education, Social Care and other stakeholders

Desirable

  • Specialist experience in Paediatric Neurology or related Community Child Health practice
  • Experience in other areas relevant to child health (e.g. child mental health, obstetrics, public health, general practice)
  • Experience in tone management in cerebral Palsy

Medical

  • Has acted as clinical supervisor for trainees and/or specialty doctors

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience as Educational supervisor
  • Completed a recognised medical management course
  • Has the ability and experience to undertake medical appraisals
  • Has experience in NHS complaint handling, critical incident reporting, staff appraisal, risk management
  • Experience of working in published research project

Patient Safety

  • Has a record of completed audit projects and service development work
  • Has record of involvement in Quality Improvement projects
