Job description
Overview

The successful candidate will become part of an established and experienced team of six Consultant Cardiac Surgeons, all dedicated to delivering the highest standards of patient care, education, and research. This locum role is offered for an initial fixed-term period with the possibility of extension, and provides a valuable opportunity for the post-holder to contribute to service delivery and further their career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be the provision of high-quality cardiac surgical care to both elective and emergency patients. This includes:
  • Participation in operating lists, outpatient clinics, and inpatient care
  • Contribution to the emergency on-call rota for adult cardiac surgery
  • Multidisciplinary team (MDT) participation and attendance at case planning meetings
  • Involvement in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance
  • Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, trainees, and medical students
  • Engagement in departmental meetings and service development projects
  • Active contribution to the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient surgical care

You will be expected to work flexibly with the other consultants and clinical teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal utilisation of theatre and bed resources.

Compliance and safety

Disclosure and Barring Service Check: Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check. The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month’s payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
