Campus Services (CS) employs over 900 staff with a turnover exceeding £57m in the last financial year. CS plays a key role in the quality of the student, staff, and visitor experience, providing services across diverse areas such as the University’s sporting facilities, food and beverage, cleaning, community safety and security, conferencing, hotel operations, day nurseries, portering, post, branded and own-brand retail outlets, visitor services and attractions (e.g., Winterbourne House & Gardens), student housing, transport, waste disposal and recycling. CS is a highly commercial organisation operating within the University context and has an ambitious strategic agenda, in terms of growing our service profile across both our Birmingham and Dubai campuses.
The Live Events Technician role is responsible for the delivery of a range of event technical production services to support musical, conference, and other events at the University of Birmingham. The technician’s primary areas of responsibility are the Elgar Concert Hall and the Great Hall; however technical assistance for events across the University campus and the city centre Exchange venue will also form part of the role.
The Technician, working under the Live Events Technical Manager, will ensure the smooth running of technical event services and events. They will provide assistance and support to incoming artistes and external production companies from technical and stagecraft aspects. Other activities requiring technical support will include rehearsals, commercial events, lectures, conferences, etc., both within the building and across the wider university. In support of the Live Events Technical Manager the post holder will also support both maintenance and health & safety aspects within the venues to ensure that current regulations and legislation are adhered to. The successful applicant will be able to work weekends, early starts, late nights, and bank holidays where required.
This role will require the exercise of personal initiative within and beyond the department.
You will be required to independently on daily, weekly and monthly tasks but also on projects with medium-longer-term horizons without daily supervision.
You will be working under the direction of a manager, with a significant degree of autonomy. You will deal with more complex queries and be expected to resolve any problems in your area of responsibility.
You will liaise with internal colleagues across the University and stakeholders.
