About the Role

As an L&H R&D Manager, you’ll lead groundbreaking research initiatives that directly impact how we understand, predict and respond to evolving global life and health trends; and how it impacts our business assumptions and decisions we make. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate complex data into impactful insights that inform business decisions and industry perspectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research projects focused on mortality and morbidity risk across diverse populations
  • Analyse and interpret complex structured and unstructured datasets to identify meaningful life and health trends
  • Develop forecasting models that predict long‑term life and health patterns with statistical rigour
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions and research organizations
  • Communicate insights to internal stakeholders and external clients through compelling presentations and reports
  • Stay current with emerging medical advancements, technological innovations, and societal shifts affecting life and health outcomes
  • Mentor junior researchers and foster a culture of scientific excellence and collaborative inquiry
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives through publications, conferences, and client engagements
About the Team

The global L&H Research and Forecasting team provides impactful insights into mortality and morbidity risks. We identify and analyze structured and unstructured datasets throughout the world that provide impactful insights on life and health trends. Such research insights establish the basis for the future prediction of long‑term life and health trends. We provide thought leadership and client services within and outside Swiss Re on key research topics such as medical advancements, technological progress and societal shifts. We establish effective partnerships and collaborations with universities, data providers and research organizations on a global basis.

About You

You’re a curious and analytical thinker who thrives on transforming complex data into meaningful narratives. With your blend of technical expertise, life and health knowledge and business acumen, you can bridge the gap between scientific research and practical applications. You’re comfortable working in ambiguity and enjoy collaborating across disciplines to solve challenging problems.

Requirements
  • Qualified actuary with at least 5 years’ experience in L&H insurance
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Mathematics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Data Science, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in life and health research, mortality analysis, or similar analytical roles
  • Proven expertise in statistical analysis and data modeling techniques, particularly as applied to life and health outcomes
  • Strong programming skills in R, Python, or similar languages for data manipulation and analysis
  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non‑technical stakeholders
  • Curious and interested in understanding the drivers of mortality and morbidity risk
Nice to haves
  • Experience with AI/machine learning applications in life and health forecasting
  • Background in health and/or medical research
  • Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals
  • Experience managing research partnerships with academic or industry organizations
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques
  • Project management certification or demonstrated experience leading complex research initiatives

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 132 000 CHF and 198 000 CHF for a full‑time role. The specific salary offered considers:

  • The requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role
  • The applicant’s own profile including education, qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
  • In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance‑based annual bonus.
