THE EMPLOYER IS: HERE NIAn entry-level role supporting HERe NI’s LGBTQIA Heritage Project, helping to collect, record, and share the stories and experiences of LGBTQIA people in Northern Ireland. The postholder will assist with research, digital archiving, event organisation, and community engagement activities that preserve and celebrate LGBTQIA history.The Heritage Project Support Officer will work closely with HERe NI staff, volunteers, and community members to support the delivery of heritage activities linked to the organisation’s growing archive and storytelling work. This role will provide valuable experience in research, project coordination, and cultural engagement within an equality-focused charity.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in gathering, recording, and cataloguing heritage materials (stories, photographs, documents, and oral histories).
  • Support the planning and delivery of heritage events and workshops, including online and in-person activities.
  • Help manage and update digital archives, heritage social media content, and project files.
  • Work alongside volunteers, staff and community members to collect lived experiences that reflect the diversity of LGBTQIA women in Northern Ireland.
  • Support the delivery of creative projects such as the LGBTQIA Heritage Podcast, exhibitions, and Pride Week events.
  • Provide administrative support to ensure accurate documentation and reporting of project activity.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of people.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time, keep accurate records, and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Interest in history, storytelling, or heritage, particularly relating to equality, inclusion, and social change.
  • Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a willingness to learn new digital tools.
  • Team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and community participants.
  • Attention to detail when handling archives, documents, or digital materials.
  • Respectful, inclusive, and non-judgemental attitude, demonstrating commitment to HERe NI’s values and the LGBTQIA community.
  • Willingness to learn and develop, including undertaking relevant training and mentoring as part of the placement.
  • Familiarity with digital archiving, oral history recording, or content creation (audio, video, or photography).
  • Confidence in engaging with community members to collect and document lived experiences.
  • Awareness of LGBTQIA history or equality issues in Northern Ireland.
  • Experience supporting events, exhibitions, or workshops.
  • Ability to use or learn creative tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, or podcast editing software.
  • Experience or interest in social media storytelling to promote heritage work.
