Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a PE M&A Lawyer to join a leading international investment firm in London. This is a high-impact, business-facing role supporting a globally active investment platform across Private Equity and Infrastructure, with exposure to complex, cross-border transactions.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Legal, Private Equity, the successful Legal Counsel will work with Lawyers seconded from the firm’s relationship law firms from time to time, playing a key role in supporting transactions and advising on a wide range of legal matters across Europe and the US. Whilst London-based, the role includes periodic international travel.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Lawyer who enjoys working close to the deal team and contributing to value creation across the investment lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct legal support to private equity and infrastructure investment activities, including active involvement in transactions alongside external counsel
  • Advise on day-to-day legal matters and help manage legal risk using established processes
  • Contribute to the development of legal products, practices and best-practice sharing across the business
  • Support the wider group on a broad range of legal and related matters
  • Build strong working relationships with investment teams, internal legal colleagues and other support functions (Finance, Compliance, Tax, Secretariat)
  • Select, manage and evaluate external law firms

About you

You will ideally bring:

  • Qualification as a lawyer in a jurisdiction (civil or common law) relevant to the business
  • 4-8 years’ post-qualification experience, gained in a top-tier international law firm and/or a sophisticated in-house environment
  • Strong technical legal skills with experience across a range of corporate transactions, ideally including mid-market private equity and/or infrastructure
  • An international background or cross-border experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels
  • Strong commercial judgement, a proactive mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with enthusiasm to learn and grow within the role
