Legal Compliance Officer (Data Protection) - Harlow

Job Purpose

To assist the Legal Services department in ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and internal policies by delivering a range of general and specialist functions across all areas of the Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests, and respond to all hybrid FOIA enquiries on behalf of the Council. Complex cases should be referred to the Legal Services Manager for guidance.
  • Handle Subject Access Requests (SARs) under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, escalating complex issues to the Legal Services Manager when necessary.
  • Lead the coordination and response to both internal and external personal data sharing requests in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, with support from the Legal Services Manager for complex matters.
  • Oversee the processes required for maintaining compliance with the Legal Service s LEXCEL accreditation, including managing reaccreditation activities.
