Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the purchase ledger function.
  • Accurately process purchase invoices and manage supplier payments.
  • Record and process all client and office account transactions.
  • Prepare and process bank transfers, cheques, and other payment methods.
  • Assist with quarterly VAT returns and maintain accurate VAT records.

RG Consultancy are working with a very well established Legal Firm in Stockport, who are recruiting for an experienced Legal Cashier to join their finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, working closely with the Senior Legal cashier within a small team. The role can also offer some progression as the role develops.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and manage the purchase ledger function
  • Accurately process purchase invoices, ensuring they are correctly referenced
  • Verify and reconcile supplier statements and manage supplier payments
    Record and process all client and office account transactions in line with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs) and firm procedures
    Ensure all postings are accurate and supported by appropriate documentation
  • Prepare and process bank transfers, cheques, and other payment methods
  • Maintain accurate banking records, including logging of all receipts and payments
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis to ensure financial accuracy
    Manage and reconcile petty cash, ensuring proper authorisation and documentation of all transactions
  • Record incoming and outgoing invoices promptly and accurately
  • Liaise with fee earners and clients to ensure prompt resolution of billing and payment queries
  • Work in accordance with current VAT legislation and assist with quarterly VAT returns
  • Maintain accurate VAT records and support compliance reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts and support external auditors during the annual audit process
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports and reconciliations as required by management
  • Assist with credit control duties when required, including following up on outstanding client balances and liaising with relevant departments
Person Specification
  • Proven experience as a Legal Cashier within a law firm or working an account's role within a similar professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs) and VAT legislation
  • Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organisational skills
  • Proficient in legal and/or accounting software
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently across departments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy, deadline-driven environment
  • An AAT qualification would be an advantage
