Job summary

A leading UK law firm is looking for an experienced Legal Cashier to join their finance team. You will manage client invoicing, handle billing queries, and ensure compliance with SRA Accounts Rules. The ideal candidate has over 2 years of relevant experience and is confident using Excel and legal finance systems. This is a fully remote role, requiring occasional office visits, offering a stable and flexible environment with opportunities for long-term growth in legal accounts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar finance or accounts role within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Solid understanding of legal billing processes.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue client invoices in line with agreed billing schedules.
  • Process credit notes.
  • Liaise with fee earners for accurate time recording and billing narratives.
  • Investigate and resolve billing and invoice queries.
  • Act as the link between the legal team and the finance function.
  • Manage disbursement balances and ensure timely recovery.

Legal Cashier | Housing Management & Property Litigation

Birmingham or Leeds

£27,000–£30,000 DOE

Fully remote (with very occasional office visits)

We’re working with a leading UK law firm to recruit an experienced Legal Cashier into their growing Housing Management & Property Litigation team.

This is a key role within a high-performing finance function, supporting fee earners and ensuring smooth, compliant and accurate billing operations across the department.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the department, including:

  • Preparing and issuing client invoices in line with agreed billing schedules
  • Processing credit notes
  • Liaising with fee earners to ensure accurate time recording and billing narratives
  • Investigating and resolving billing and invoice queries
  • Acting as the link between the legal team and the wider finance function
  • Managing disbursement balances and ensuring timely recovery

This is a hands‑on role in a busy environment where attention to detail and ownership of your work really matter.

What they’re looking for
Essential:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar finance or accounts role within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules
  • Solid understanding of legal billing processes
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder skills

Desirable:
  • AAT (or higher)
  • Experience with legal finance systems such as Elite, Aderant, Partner 4 Windows
  • Exposure to COFA support or banking relationships
Working pattern

The Accounts team currently work fully remote, with office attendance only required occasionally (typically once every couple of months, subject to business needs).
