An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a Learning Support Mentor to join a leading educational provider in Cambridge. Working specifically within the Construction department, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities‑including Autism (ASC), sensory impairments, and physical access needs. Your mission is to empower these learners to access their curriculum, develop vital metacognitive skills, and successfully transition into their chosen trade.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Support: Work alongside subject lecturers and assessors to support students both in the classroom and in practical workshop environments.
  • Empowerment: Assist students in achieving personalised learning outcomes and targets set out in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Resource Adaptation: Modify class materials (e.g., enlarging text or simplifying language) to ensure all students can engage with the technical curriculum.
  • Practical Assistance: Provide support through note‑taking, reading, word processing, and the use of enabling technologies.
  • Holistic Care: Support students during breaks, lunches, and off‑site trips, and assist with therapy interventions (Physiotherapy or Speech & Language) under professional guidance.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate daily records of student attendance and progress using internal monitoring systems (Pro‑monitor).
Requirements
  • Experience: Proven track record of working with young people with learning difficulties or disabilities.
  • Skills: Strong literacy and numeracy skills to assist with the definition of language and technical terminology.
  • Communication: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate progress to parents and external key workers.
  • Advocacy: A strong commitment to championing inclusion and promoting student independence.
  • Compliance: An Enhanced Child & Adult DBS check is required (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Flexibility: Comfortable working across various learning environments, including practical construction areas.
