Lead System Architect

Location: Bristol or Stevenage, UK – Hybrid (3-5 days on-site depending on workload)

Salary: £60,000 - £72,000 depending on experience

Please note this role requires you to have British Citizenship.

A leading defence technology organisation is seeking a Lead System Architect to join their Mission Planning & Control team for a critical FC / ASW weapon system. This role offers the chance to shape architectural artefacts across multiple product offerings, maximise modularity and re-use, and lead the development of highly complex systems that operate across UK and international platforms.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of architectural artefacts for the Mission Planning & Control product line.
  • Guide and mentor other architects, influencing the overall design and delivery approach.
  • Apply MBSE practices to complex system architectures and ensure alignment with product line principles.
  • Collaborate with multi-skilled teams to deliver solutions on time, on cost, and to quality standards.
Skills and experience required
  • Proven expertise in complex systems architecture and practical MBSE experience.
  • Knowledge of architectural principles in a product line environment is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Rhapsody & SysML, and IBM Engineering Workflow Management (essential); experience with DOORS Next Generation is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate and influence across teams.
  • Experience leading small to medium work packages autonomously and tackling highly complex challenges.
