Overview

Do you have a passion for Hospital Pharmacy and a proven track record within a clinical field? This is an excellent opportunity to join Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in a senior role within the Pharmacy team, leading services to the Cardiology department and contributing as a Specialist Lead Pharmacist.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on clinical pharmacy services to the Medical-Cardiology wards and play a senior role within the Pharmacy team.
  • Develop, evaluate and deliver clinical pharmacy services to the Cardiology and Medical directorates, in accordance with objectives set with the Assistant Director of Pharmacy – Clinical Services.
  • Promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence-based guidelines; develop, audit and monitor Medicines Management processes; provide training and supervision to departmental staff.
  • Ensure a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service in-line with service objectives; act as a key resource of expertise within the Specialist Clinical Pharmacy area.
  • Prescribe in line with Trust policies and procedures (subject to necessary qualification); provide a Specialist Clinical Pharmacy service to the Cardiology and General Medicine directorates.
  • Provide expert pharmaceutical knowledge and advice to the wider MDT to support care of cardiology and medical patients.
  • Assist in control of annual drug expenditure for the Cardiology and General Medicine directorates.
  • Maintain commitment to advancing clinical skills and knowledge within the Cardiology Specialist area; attend weekly teaching sessions and other development opportunities.
  • Develop teaching opportunities for students, trainees and rotating Pharmacists; contribute to antimicrobial stewardship and the Trust antimicrobial stewardship programme under appropriate leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy (essential).
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment; evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork advantageous.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Willingness to pursue a prescribing qualification or work towards one; commitment to continuing professional development.

Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

About the Department and Trust

The Trust is a Teaching Hospital and provider of specialist tertiary care for Cardiac, Haematology and adult Cystic Fibrosis services. The Pharmacy Department provides specialist services to these areas and more.
