We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Oracle Database Engineer to join our team and take part in a business critical migration project. This individual will be responsible for leading workstreams to transition from legacy RDBMs to Oracle, on a massive scale, ensuring a scalable, high-performance, and future-proof architecture.

The role requires deep technical expertise in multiple RDBMS technologies. The right individual will be proactive and used to working in a fluid, changing environment. They will take ownership of their work and will thrive on defining the trajectory, planning and owning a path from where we are to where we need to be. Going out and getting the job done by influencing colleagues and leadership will be critical to success.

Automation will be a large part of this project. The scale of the migration will be such that all aspects of future operations will need to be covered with automation, at scale. We will be designing and building a full set of tools to manage the entire operation. Our responsibilities will be to build the ansible playbooks to perform the tasks. Working closely with a set of software engineers who will be designing the interface in front of our playbooks.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Lead database migration workstreams.

  • Maintain and produce technical documentation.
  • Plan and maintain project documentation.
  • Keep leadership up to date on current events within the project.
  • Leverage your understanding of the business and department to identify opportunities for tools and automation, aiming to simplify processes and reduce engineer involvement.
  • Provide database expertise to collaborating engineering teams (Database change reviews, database architecture solution, benchmark testing, PoC collaboration, performance tuning, troubleshooting etc.).
  • Implement proactive monitoring and alerting to pre-empt outages.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (OR TECHNICAL SKILLS)
  • Have experience of leading database migration projects.
  • Proven years of experience as a multi discipline Database Administrator (DBA)

  • Proficiency in database schema conversion, data mapping, and migration strategies.
  • Hands‑on experience with replication technologies, active‑active or active‑passive.

  • Strong understanding of broader IT infrastructure, networking, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionally with different teams.
  • Flexible with working times to work with other teams globally.
YOU (BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS)

  • Enjoys learning new technologies and being at the forefront of change.
  • Able to influence and set direction for a large‑scale migration effort.
  • Detail‑oriented with a problem‑solving mindset.

  • Opportunity to lead a high‑impact project with major business benefits.
