General Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician is a hands-on role responsible for repairs, preventive maintenance, and facility improvements to ensure efficiency and uptime in production and office areas. This position manages maintenance activities for buildings, machinery, equipment, vehicles, and grounds, ensuring safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. The role also involves maintaining accurate records using CMMS software (MaintainX) and keeping workspaces organized. Technical skills development is encouraged.

Principal Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on buildings, equipment, utilities, and plant systems.
• Operate and maintain steam boilers and water treatment equipment, testing water quality and adjusting chemicals as needed.
• Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, developing maintenance programs.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance and facilities.
• Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials properly.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and procedures.
• Order parts and supplies from vendors as needed.
• Assist management in safety and maintenance programs.
• Coordinate with licensed contractors for major repairs or construction.
• Use technical documentation like blueprints and manuals for equipment maintenance.
• Organize grounds maintenance with landscape contractors.
• Manage maintenance requests and execute high-priority tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fields is a plus.
• Required: Boiler and industrial water treatment training.
• Technical certifications in maintenance or utilities preferred.

Experience/Qualifications

• 5–10 years in industrial maintenance, with experience in automated production equipment.
• Strong mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities.
• Proficient with hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Experience with pneumatic systems, conveyors, HVAC, dust collection, mechanical drives.
• Steam boiler maintenance and operation experience required.
• Forklift operation certification required.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license required.
• Skills in machining, welding, carpentry.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently or in a team.
