Key Stage 3 SEND Teacher – Autism & Complex Needs – Special School – Tower Hamlets

£170–£230/day (depending on experience) | KS3 | Tower Hamlets | Full-Time | Long-Term | March Start

Axcis are also recruiting for a Key Stage 3 SEND Teacher to join the same well-established special school in Tower Hamlets, starting at the beginning of March, with a transition day during the week commencing 23 February. This KS3 class supports 10 autistic, non-verbal and sensory learners who are working below National Curriculum Year 1. Pupils require a highly structured timetable, practical learning opportunities and consistent use of visuals and objects of reference to support both learning and communication. The class is extremely well supported, with 5 Teaching Assistants, and the successful teacher will be guided through curriculum planning. Specialist teachers deliver subjects such as Drama, Music, Art, Food Technology, Design Technology and PE, while the class teacher leads on core curriculum areas and classroom organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching a KS3 class of autistic pupils with complex communication and sensory needs.
  • Delivering structured, practical lessons focused on engagement, communication and independence.
  • Using visuals, objects of reference and clear routines to support understanding and regulation.
  • Leading a team of experienced TAs, ensuring consistency and high expectations.
  • Delivering core subject learning while working alongside specialist subject teachers.
  • Supporting pupils’ personal development, independence and readiness for later stages of education.
  • Working closely with parents, writing reports and contributing to reviews and planning meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
  • QTS / QTLS (or equivalent), with special school or complex SEND experience highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of autism, non-verbal communication and sensory learning.
  • Confidence planning and delivering practical, structured lessons.
  • Ability to lead a classroom team and manage the wider responsibilities of teaching.
  • Energy, resilience and enthusiasm for specialist education.
  • Full-time availability and commitment to long-term placement.
