A leading healthcare provider in the UK is looking for a Junior Sister / Charge Nurse to manage patient care in the Nightingale Macmillan Unit. The candidate should have experience in palliative medicine, strong communication skills, and be able to mentor junior staff. Junior Sister / Charge Nurse opportunity within the Nightingale Macmillan Unit of the palliative medicine department. The unit has 21 beds, with capability to increase to 24 beds in times of pressure. One permanent and one secondment position are available. Part of this role is offered as a secondment; applicants should consult with their manager and obtain approval prior to submitting an application. Closing date: 22 September 2025. You will be expected to work long days, nights and weekends.
To support the Senior Sister in the day-to-day management of the unit and ensure the delivery of patient-centred, clinically effective holistic care in a safe and caring environment.
Provide specific clinical knowledge and advice to the multi-professional team, promote evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes, and consider all aspects of Clinical Governance.
Supervise the delivery of care by junior staff, allocate clinical workload as required, respond to changing clinical situations, and provide necessary advice and support to maintain high standards of patient care.
Act as a role model at all times and ensure adherence to infection control policies and procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment for everyone.
Provide guidance and support to junior staff and comply with NMC standards for mentors.
Maintain accurate, legible and timely patient care records using the current patient recording system.
