Clinical Fellow – Emergency Department (ED) at Nottingham University Hospital (NUH). The role offers a professional pathway to advance in acute medical care within a large, high-capacity academic hospital.
Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in the identification, assessment and management of acutely ill and trauma patients.
- Make appropriate decisions regarding admission, discharge, primary‑care follow up and transfer between specialties.
- Learn and apply procedural skills such as fascia iliaca block, chest drain insertion, and other ED core interventions.
- Maintain current knowledge through mandatory training, audit participation, and attendance of clinical meetings.
- Engage in the annual appraisal process and support the professional development of colleagues.
- Take part in current trend initiatives, e.g. recognising and managing ‘silver trauma’ and poly‑trauma cases.
Essential Qualifications & Training
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with licence to practice.
- ALS (Acute Life Support) provider.
- Completion of Foundation training (or equivalent).
- For a Junior post – at least 3 years post‑MBBS and a minimum of 2 years pure ED experience in the NHS at CT1/2 level.
- For a Senior post – at least 6 years post‑MBBS, a minimum of 2 years ED experience in the NHS at CT3 level or higher, and MRCEM Full exam.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- MRCEM (part‑time if CT3 or full if CT4).
- ALS instructor.
- ATLS provider.
- Experience in a large acute hospital (>1000 beds).
- Clinical attachment of >2 weeks in a large acute hospital ED.
- Evidence of involvement in design or running of clinical audits, or presentation of research findings.
